According to a press release from the Youngstown Phantoms, new defenseman Ty Farmer, and Phantoms affiliate list player Luke McInnis
have been named to the20-man U.S. Under-17 Select Team roster. The two will help represent the Red, White and Blue
in the 2014 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament, slated for August 13-17 in
Crimmitschau, Germany.
Farmer, who was tendered ahead of this year’s USHL Draft, comes to
Youngstown after spending last season with the St. Louis Blues AAA U-16
program. The O’Fallon, Missouri native tallied 12 points (2g, 10a) in 31
games last season.
Selected in the third round (38 overall) in Phase I of this year’s
USHL Draft, McInnis split his time last season between Hingham High
School in his hometown of Hingham, Massachusetts, and the Cape Cod
Whalers U-16 program. The 15-year-old defenseman potted seven goals and
added 12 assists between the two teams, including three goals and an
assist in 10 games with Cape Cod. He is the son of former National
Hockey League (NHL) standout, Marty McInnis.
Farmer and McInnis join Kyle Connor as Phantoms
who have been selected to represent the United States internationally in
2014. Connor helped Team USA capture Gold at this year’s International
Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) U-18 World Championship in Lappeenranta,
Finland back in April.
This year’s Five Nations Tournament will feature teams from the
Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland, with Team USA
scheduled to play one game against each team. Behind the bench for Team
USA will be Sioux Falls Stampede head coach Cary Eades.
